It may be wishful thinking, but Premier Dalton McGuinty is hoping California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will be forced to utter his famously over-used catch phrase, “I’ll be back”, after his Anaheim Ducks fall short against the Ottawa Senators in the upcoming N.H.L. Stanley Cup final. Arnold is equally anxious to see the Ducks terminate Ottawa’s hopes of finally sipping champagne from the coveted silver.
Game One is set for Monday, and McGuinty and Schwarzenegger are currently working out the finer points of a friendly wager on the outcome. When asked what he’ll request from his heavily-muscled rival, McGuinty quipped, “ Anything that goes good with California Duck, maybe a nice California wine.”
And while the battle for bragging rights remains light-hearted amongst politicians, it’s anything but for the players.
Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson is expecting a physical series.
“I think our toughness is underrated a little bit,” Alfredsson said Friday. “(And) I haven’t really seen them to know how physical they are, but I’m sure playing against us, it’s going to be their thing. They’re going to try to hit everything.”
“You have to be prepared and know those guys are going to come after you now,” adds Ottawa ‘s Christoph Schubert. “Right now, you have to be ready to keep your head up and know that somebody’s going to come after you.”
