Larry Green’s family is suing his doctors in Raleigh, North Carolina and once you hear the reasons why, you may not blame them. Green was walking across a highway in 2005 when he was hit by a car. Paramedics rushed him to hospital where doctors declared him dead. His body was wheeled out of the trauma unit, put in a body bag and taken to the morgue.
There was just one small problem – Green wasn’t dead. It took the medical examiner at least 2½ hours to notice the man he was going to autopsy was still breathing.
Green spent more than two months recovering from severe head injuries and a broken leg. He was unable to speak for five months after the mishap. He’s now confined to a nursing home and his family believes he would have had a better chance at recovery if doctors hadn’t given up on him so quickly.
They charge the medicos failed to properly check his vital signs, leading to the conclusion he was deceased – an opinion that turned out to be dead wrong.
