Could street racing be behind a terrible crash that left four people nursing minor injuries, a man under arrest and a road closed for hours during the afternoon rush?
That’s what Toronto Police Traffic Services investigators are pondering Friday, after a two-car collision closed Caledonia Road near Lawrence. It was about 3:30pm when one of the vehicles collided with a third car, briefly trapping one person in the wreckage.
Cops are still trying to figure out if those involved were taking part in some kind of dangerous race.
“We know there were a couple of vehicles, [going at a] high rate of speed northbound on Caledonia north of Lawrence,” confirms Sgt. Scott Collins. “The vehicles came upon a slower moving vehicle, which resulted in one of the drivers braking heavily and losing control of his vehicle and colliding with … the Caledonia Road vehicle.”
Four people were checked out in hospital and one of the motorists has been charged with dangerous driving. Police are still looking for a black car, possibly a Jetta, seen fleeing the area.
