Dog Jacket Claims To Relieve Animal’s Joint Pain

There’s nothing sadder for a pet owner than to watch a formerly playful and youthful friend deteriorate into old age, showing the first signs of arthritis and hip pain. It can be debilitating for an old dog, but there is a new trick you can use to help relieve the aches in both the animal – and your heart.

It’s a new jacket called the Therapeutic “Spaw” and those who’ve tried it swear it’s helped put the pup back in their pooch. The clothing-like covering contains non-toxic gel packs that can be heated up or cooled down to provide the kind of relief humans get with heating pads or ice for their own joint pains. It targets the neck, shoulders, hips and the spine, and fits over the animal like a coat, getting the benefit of the close contact.

Most pet owners were skeptical, but some of those who tried it claim they were pleasantly surprised by the change in their pet. “You notice a complete difference,” claims Kay Weeks. “[I was] very surprised, but in conjunction with the glucosamine for her hips, she’s had a huge improvement in like the past eight months.”

But what if your dog refuses to let you put it on? The makers of the relief device have a solution for that as well – a bed that works in a similar way. “I thought,  ‘You’re kidding me,'” chuckles Alexandra Elliot the first time she heard the idea. “But it works.”

And the creators claim your dog doesn’t have to have joint pain to benefit. Just place it on them on a hot day this coming summer. “If they’re overheating or suffering from heat exhaustion, you can just put this jacket on top of them and the cool packs will actually cool them down within 2 to 3 minutes,” notes Carl Milson, of A Touch Of Love.
