Police say it’s the nickname of a key person allegedly connected to the murder of 19-year-old Richard Gyamfi and on Monday a $50,000 reward was offered for information leading to an arrest.
The young victim was found slumped over in a car in a parking lot behind his apartment at 2999 Jane St. , near Finch, on September 28, 2007. He’d been shot in the head. While investigators have received some tips in the nearly nine months since the shocking crime, they’ve also encountered a wall of silence regarding some vital information on this case.
“The initial investigation identified a number of persons of interest. However, we lacked a witness to come forward and narrow our focus from the group that we had initially established,” Det. Peter Moreira of Toronto Police’s Homicide Squad explained.
“Whatever the motivator is for the witnesses to come forward, we’re prepared to do. We’ll be relentless in our pursuit of these people. This is a cowardly attack on an innocent young man,”
Gyamfi was with three friends in the parking lot at his home when two suspects approached. A fight apparently broke out followed by the fatal shot.
Despite the fact the victim’s friends were present and someone nearby also dialed 911 shortly after the murder investigators still lack that vital tip to lead them to the killer.
But a forensic link has helped detectives narrow their focus. The gun used to kill Gyamfi was apparently used in another, earlier crime.
“We’re appealing to the members of this community … who have assisted us and provided information to us, to come forward with that vital clue that we know exists within the members, or the people that live in this area,” Moreira said.
