Why You Should Wait For Boxing Day To Buy Your Presents

The days leading up to Christmas always feature a few common scenes: crowded malls, frantic shoppers and people weighed down by bags are among them, and no economic downturn is likely to change that.

But there’s another side to that annual coin.

With money low and business slow (or at least slower than usual) some are suggesting the best time to buy Christmas presents this year, is, well, when it’s over.

“There’s lots of deals,” promises Zee Sofi, GM of the Best Buy at Bay and Dundas.

But Best Buy’s hardly the only chain expected to slash prices after Dec. 25th. Sears has also announced major reductions in its electronics pricing and it isn’t likely to stop there.

“I believe the numbers will go lower because retailers want to meet their sales expectations for this month,” said retail analyst John Winter.

“A lot of people will want to clear out their merchandise at the end of this year to bring in new and exciting merchandise for the spring of next year.”
