A high-speed police chase that started in Newcastle eventually spiraled to include the OPP and a Durham region helicopter – and ended at Avenue Road near Wilson in Toronto.
It all began around 11pm Friday, when there was an alleged knife-point robbery.
Three suspects allegedly drove away from the scene of the crime heading southbound on the DVP.
Durham Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police gave chase, following the vehicle as it exited at Eglinton Avenue and made a right on Avenue Road.
A helicopter was also used to track the car’s movement – officers allege that the car didn’t even have its headlights on, making it difficult to see.
Around 11:10pm, the getaway car approached Lawrence Avenue. Cops allege that the driver lost control and plunged the vehicle into a snowbank.
All three suspects jumped out of the car and kept running. Two allegedly broke into a house on Old Orchard Grove to hide, but it didn’t last long. Ten minutes later, police found a broken window in the back of the home. They entered and the suspects were quickly arrested.
But the third suspect is still on the loose.
The Emergency Task Force as well as the K-9 unit were on the scene tracking the man but so far, he’s still at large.
He’s described as:
- white
- 5’4″
- 145 lbs
