Suspect At Large After Fatal Shooting In Northwest End

Homicide detectives are investigating the city’s eighth murder of 2009 after a young man was gunned down outside an apartment building near Jane and Finch.
The 19-year-old victim was rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital in critical condition, but pronounced dead a short time later.
Police from 31 Division were called to a highrise on Driftwood Avenue just after 7pm.
Investigators believe a dispute began in the building’s lobby before spilling out onto the street. As the argument escalated, the suspect pulled a gun and shot the victim – possibly several times – in the chest.
At this time, police don’t have any information about the gunman. And the weapon has not been recovered.
