Third-Largest Jackpot Up For Grabs: $40 Million

If you picked up a ticket for the third-largest jackpot in Canadian history – an estimated $40 million – now’s the time to find out if you should buy a Porsche or cry in your beer.

The drum roll, please.

The unofficial winning numbers in Saturday’s Lotto 6/49 draw were 16, 17, 23, 27, 30 and 45. The bonus number was 39.

If no one wins this one, Wednesday’s draw will be an estimated $49 million.

The biggest single winner to date took home a whopping $54 million nearly four years ago. The Alberta resident got rich on October 26, 2005.

Less than a year later, $43 million was collected on August 12, 2006.

Saturday’s prize could slide into the third place, knocking out a $39 million single win from November 8, 2006.

Just two months ago, a lottery winner in Peel took home his cut of a $50 million 6/49 prize. Kevin Perron netted $12.5 million after his winnings were split four ways.

Lucky Number…34?

Against all odds, there’s one number that has come up more often than any other in 6/49 history. That number? 34.

Although it didn’t show up Saturday, it’s been part of a winning combination 391 times.

It’s inexplicable, but there’s no denying when it comes to this particular lottery, 34 is the luckiest of lucky numbers.
