Fans Worldwide Mourn Passing Of Michael Jackson, As Audio Of 911 Call Released

He moonwalked his way into pop music history – now fans worldwide are mourning the passing of Michael Jackson.

People gathered in droves outside UCLA’s medical centre as word spread – first of his cardiac arrest, then of his death.

The King of Pop died Thursday, just weeks before the start of a 50-concert series at London’s O2 arena meant to kick-start a comeback.

Doctors performed an autopsy Friday, and later in the day the Los Angeles County coroner’s spokesperson Craig Harvey said determining his cause of death would require further tests that could take six to eight weeks. Harvey said there were no signs of foul play or trauma, but that Jackson was taking unspecified prescription medication.

A family attorney remarked that he’d been concerned about Jackson’s prescription drug use for dancing-related injuries and claimed that those close to the pop star had ignored his warnings.

Jackson collapsed Thursday at his rental home in a posh L.A. neighbourhood. Celebrity website TMZ.com, which broke the news of the singer’s death, quoted a relative as saying that Jackson received a shot of the painkiller Demerol before going into cardiac arrest.
