‘Embarrassed’ Jaffer Apologizes To Committee For Incomplete Information

Rahim Jaffer says he made a mistake when showed up at Commons committee unprepared two months ago, and wants to set the record straight.

But the former Conservative MP won’t be clearing the air in person for some time.

He is ignoring a summons to appear at the government operations committee because he says he needs to attend a medical appointment with his wife, former junior minister Helena Guergis.

Instead, Jaffer has sent a letter to the committee outlining a number of areas where he misspoke during his first appearance on April 21.

He says he was so anxious to fight against allegations of impropriety made against his wife that he didn’t follow his lawyer’s advice to take more time to prepare.

Jaffer says he’s embarrassed himself and apologizes to the committee.

But he adds that he was surprised by the nasty tone taken by some of the MPs at the committee.

Jaffer faces allegations of illegal lobbying and influence peddling, all of which he vigorously denied.
