Fall fashions trending for back-to-school

For many teenagers, especially teen girls, the best part of going back to school is the shopping. And as the summer winds down, the fall trends trail in just in time for the start of school.

Robin Keeler is the fashion director at Yorkdale Shopping Centre and said the biggest trend for girls this fall are jeggings.

For those who don’t already know, jeggings are part legging, part jeans. Keeler says these have more substance than your typical legging and look more appropriate.

Girls can pair their tres chic jeggings with a flowy top or chunky cardigan.

Another trend we will see on girls are boots – ankle boots, knee boots, over the knee boots, winter boots and even rain boots. Keeler said boots are the perfect match to skinny jeans, jeggings and dresses.

And for boys who want to follow the trends, they should look for a perfect fitting pair of jeans. Keeler said the distressed look is in, but stay away from too many rips and holes.

One trend we will see on both teen girls and boys is plaid. Look for plaid shirts on guys and plaid skirts, headbands and shirts on girls.

When it comes to carrying the books, boys stick to the tried and true back pack while girls will be sporting a large purse or messenger bag.

Keeler said the best time to hit the shops is now. Make sure you set a budget and stick to it, prioritize whats needed most and expect to make more than one trip to the mall.
