With just a few day until Christmas, Salvation Army donations are down considerably.
In the GTA, the charitable organization is short about $900,000, and nation-wide, the numbers look even worse, with $9.7 million collected — a far cry from their $18 million goal.
“Well the media keeps telling us that the recession is over, and certainly from a front line organization like the Salvation Army, I would say it’s not over, that is the reality,” said Capt. John Murray, Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army serves 400 communities across Canada, with the money from holiday kettles going to a variety of causes.
“Money raised is used specifically for Christmas programs to bring families Christmas,” Murray explained. “To feed the hungry, to provide housing for the homeless.”
You can donate the old fashioned way, by placing bills or change in a kettle, or you can do it all online. Find out how here.
