NFL team in Toronto?

TORONTO, Ont. – Are you ready for some football? The Ford brothers are.

Mayor Rob Ford and his councillor brother Doug Ford are dreaming big about bringing an NFL team to Toronto.

Councillor Ford told the Toronto Sun an NFL team would bring jobs to the city and raise its worldwide profile, and that the NFL would award Toronto the Super Bowl within the first four years.

One football fan told 680News he loves the idea, but wonders what it would mean for the CFL and the Toronto Argos.

“Are you kidding? Of course, I would be the first one in the line grabbing tickets, but then that would put the CFL in jeopardy,” he said.

Mayor Ford told the Sun an NFL team touchdown in Toronto isn’t at the top of his priority list, but said he would be all ears if the private sector wanted to come to the table.

In keeping with his reputation for looking out for the taxpayer, Ford said public money would not be used in the purchase of a team or construction of a stadium.

As for where a stadium might go, it’s believed Downsview would be a good spot.
