705 area code region now dial 10 digits; Introducing new 249 area code

ONTARIO – Folks in the 705 area code region have no choice but to dial their area code when making calls, starting Saturday.

This applies to calling a neighbour across the street.  The new area code, 249, is being introduced this month.

Residents who have not been using the area code since the beginning of the year have had their calls put through with a reminder to start using the prefix
that changed as of Saturday morning.

Area codes 705 and 249 are telephone area codes that covers most of northeastern and central Ontario in Canada
