TORONTO – Honest Ed’s is doing it again. It’s the 24th annual holiday tradition of Honest Ed’s turkey giveaway.
People have been lining up for hours to get their hands on a free turkey and fruit cake, which is expected to be handed out by 10 a.m. on Sunday.
The event was started by the store’s founder, the late Ed Mirvish, in 1987. His son, David Mirvish has continued to keep the event annual, as it has become a tradition in the city of Toronto.
The general manager of the store, Russell Lazar said the first person got in line Friday night.
“It’s just a wonderful feeling to be able to participate in this turkey giveaway and people are so appreciative. It’s really wonderful,” said Lazar.
Mayor Rob Ford and some of the cast members of the musical Mary Poppins are expected to attend the event.
