Coyote attacks 8-year-old girl in Oakville

An 8-year-old Oakville girl is recovering after she was bitten twice by a coyote in broad daylight Thursday while playing with a friend in a backyard.

Halton police say it happened on Cannonridge Circle just before 4 p.m.

The two girls, both aged 8, were playing in the backyard when the coyote jumped a 4-foot high chain linked fence.

Julie was bitten twice in the lower leg. She was treated at hospital for minor injuries and released.

“It felt like someone was chasing me and I felt like the coyote was going to come and grab a piece of my skin off…” she told CityNews.

A coyote was found and shot dead not long after, but police say they aren’t certain it’s the same one responsible for the attack.
