Man faces impaired driving charges after fatal Brampton crash

A Brampton man, who himself was injured, is facing numerous impaired driving charges after a crash this weekend.

At around 2 a.m. Sunday, the accused was driving an Audi when it collided with a GMC Acadia in Brampton, Peel police say.

The Audi was heading southbound on Torbram Road toward Bovaird Road when it collided with the GMC, which was travelling eastbound on Bovaird.

A passenger in the Audi, a 27-year-old Brampton man, died at the scene. A second passenger was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The GMC driver suffered non-life threatening injuries.

“The collision was so strong that it caused one of the vehicles to flip on its side, and there were three people trapped in that car for a short time. Some citizens assisted in getting two of those people out of the car. The third person sadly succumbed to their injuries at the scene,” said Peel Police Const. Fiona Thivierge.

The driver, Prashant Panwar, 25, was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and two counts of impaired operation causing bodily harm.

He is currently in critical condition in hospital. As such, a court date has not been set.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact investigators at (905) 453-2121, ext. 3710 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
