911 call released in Whitney Houston’s death

The 911 call made the day Whitney Houston died has been released, now that police have officially closed the case due to their findings and the coroner’s report stating she accidentally drowned, Beverly Hills police said on Wednesday.

The call was made from a hotel security guard who said, “Apparently I’ve got a 46-year-old female found in the bathroom,” and that, “She fell or she was in the bathroom with the water.”

The caller said he was alerted of the late singer’s dire situation from an “irate” woman who called security and “kept hanging up.”

Houston, 48, who had a long history of drug abuse, was found dead on Feb. 11. The final coroner’s report said white powder, along with a spoon, mirror and rolled-up paper, were found in the Beverly Hilton hotel bathroom where Houston died hours before she had been due to attend a pre-Grammy party.

Houston’s naked body was found by an assistant face down in the tub after she was left alone for about an hour, the coroner’s report said. It was unclear if the “irate” woman in the 911 call was Houston’s assistant.

“Based on the findings of our investigation and our review of the coroner’s report, we have determined that this is not a criminal matter,” the Beverly Hills police department said in a statement. “The BHPD investigation has been officially closed.”

Houston was one of the world’s best known singers in the 1980s and 1990s with hits like I Will Always Love You and Saving All My Love for You. But her career declined during her drug-fuelled, 15-year marriage to singer Bobby Brown.

She was last known to have entered drug rehab in May 2011 but celebrity media reported that she had been seen drinking heavily and behaving erratically in the three or four days before her death.

Below is the text version of the 911 call.

CALLER: Hi how are you doing, this is security from Beverly Hilton.
911 OPERATOR: Hi. What’s going on?
CALLER: I need the paramedics. Apparently I’ve got a 46-year-old female found in the bathroom. That’s all I’ve got right now, but they’re requesting paramedics.
911 OPERATOR: She was found in the bathroom? What room is she in?
CALLER: I’m not sure. She fell or she was in the bathroom with the water. 464, 434. I’m sorry.
911 OPERATOR: That’s room 434? Ok. That’s not east or west or anything, that’s room 434?
CALLER: Yeah.
911 OPERATOR: OK. And you don’t know if she’s conscious or breathing at all?
CALLER: Uh, apparently she wasn’t breathing and she’s 46 years old.
911 OPERATOR: She was not breathing? OK, but she is breathing right now?
CALLER: I don’t know. The person that called me was irate and pretty much out of there. There’s security going there now.
911 OPERATOR: OK, we’ll send police and fire over there with that person not breathing. Did it sound like the person was still not breathing?
CALLER: Yes, that’s correct.
911 OPERATOR: OK, we’ll get in there for not breathing. Is there any way you can get me to the room so we can try and do CPR?
CALLER: Yeah, we’re going in there now.
911 OPERATOR: Can you get me into the room so I can try and give CPR instructions.
CALLER: Oh I’m sorry, uh, no, because she kept hanging up on us.
911 OPERATOR: She kept hanging up on you?
CALLER: Yeah.
911 OPERATOR: OK, right we’re going to get right over there.
CALLER: OK. Thank you. Bye.”
