Suncor Energy will pay a $500,000 fine for its role in the fixing of the price of gasoline at stations in Belleville five years ago.
The competition bureau found Suncor and Pioneer stations exchanged information that went beyond what the gasoline watchdog deems acceptable on five occasions.
In related news, Pioneer, Canadian Tire and Mr. Gas pleaded guilty last month to fixing gas prices in Kingston and Brockville in 2007.
The companies were fined a total of $2 million, while a class-action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of consumers who may have been overcharged in relation to the price fixing.
