Katie Holmes, daughter in crash with garbage truck

Talk about a bumpy way for Katie Holmes to start off her newly single life.

Holmes, 33, and daughter Suri Cruise, 6, were traveling home from the Chelsea Piers recreational centre in New York City Monday night when a garbage truck hit the Mercedes-Benz they were in, police confirm.

The only other person in the car was their driver, and no one was injured. But sources close to the situation say Holmes and Suri were shaken.

“Suri was crying in the car,” a source told People magazine.

Once Holmes and her daughter arrived home to their new Manhattan apartment, which is close to the recreation centre, a police report was filed.

This is the second time in just four days that Holmes and Suri have been involved in a car crash, although this time it does not seem to be a direct result of increased media attention in the wake of Holmes’s split from Tom Cruise.

Last Friday, a paparazzo’s car rammed into Holmes’s car as she and Suri were returning home from a trip to FAO Schwartz.

Suri will attend a private Catholic school in the fall.
