Man rushed to hospital after WB Gardiner crash

A 21-year-old man has been rushed to St. Michael’s Hospital after a collision involving at least three vehicles, including a tractor-trailer.

It happened around 10:30 a.m., Monday, on the westbound Gardiner Expressway just east of Islington Avenue.

The man, whose injuries are considered non-life threatening, was briefly trapped but rescued after workers pulled the truck off the vehicle.

Two other victims with minor injuries were also transported to a local hospital.

Police say flying debris may have been a factor in the crash and the investigation is ongoing.

“There’s indication there may have been some debris that may have come off a vehicle. We don’t know if it was the truck or one other vehicle down there. We are in the process of trying to determine that.” Const. Clint Stibbe told CityNews.

Both the eastbound and westbound Gardiner express lanes were closed between Islington and Kipling for the police investigation.
