GO Transit fare hike in effect

GO Transit riders are paying more on Friday than they were on Thursday when a scheduled fare hike went into effect.
The cost of a single ride has gone up by 35 to 55 cents, depending on the distance.
The increase is less for Presto card customers, who already receive a discount for purchasing rides in bulk.

GO said the increases are necessary to improve the service, including more frequent bus and train trips, and to add more parking spaces.
The increase was approved at a Metrolinx meeting on Dec. 5, 2012.
