Toronto police have issued a first-degree murder warrant for a suspect in the killing of 21-year-old Anthony Smith outside a downtown nightclub last week.
Police accuse Nisar Hashimi, 23, of shooting Smith to death on King Street West near Portland Street around 2:30 a.m. last Thursday.
Hashimi is also wanted for attempted murder after another man was injured in the same incident.
At a news conference Wednesday, police said the shooting was not random.
“It is clear to us that Anthony Smith was an intended target,” said Det. Joyce Schertzer.
Schertzer said she spoke to the suspect’s attorney and had arranged for him to surrender on Wednesday morning, but Hashimi “did not honour that arrangement.”
“My advice is to turn yourself in,” she advised. “Every officer has your picture…You will be apprehended.”
Schertzer also warned that anyone aiding the fugitive will face serious charges.
