Toronto police have charged a woman with first-degree murder in the death of her baby.
Police tell CityNews Angelica Spanidis, 25, was arrested Friday at North York General Hospital after she had given birth at an unknown location.
Officials are now looking outside Toronto for the child’s remains.
“Police were contacted by North York General Hospital last Thursday afternoon. We were able to gather sufficient evidence by Friday morning to charge the mother…with first degree murder. At this point we have not located the body of the deceased infant,” said Det. Sgt. Dean Burks.
“We have information that led us to believe that the body was born at the residence, and that’s the location where the baby was killed.”
The woman’s parents told CityNews they did not know their daughter was pregnant.
Spanidis appeared in court on Monday. Her court date was put over until May 30.
Further details were not immediately available.
