Old City Hall evacuated due to fire

Old City Hall has been evacuated due to a small fire on one side of the building, Toronto fire officials say.

The fire started behind a wall in a main floor washroom on the east side of the building early Friday afternoon while many were on their lunch break. But it has since been put out.

Everyone, including prisoners, had to be removed as a precaution. One person was treated for smoke inhalation.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.

Queen Street was closed between Bay and Yonge streets while firefighters worked, but has since reopened.

The building remains closed, and there was no immediate word on when it would reopen.
