Family suing TTC, driver after woman killed

TORONTO – The family of a woman who was struck and killed by a TTC bus in January is suing the driver and the transit agency for $3.2-million.

Wendy Martella, 48, was struck while she was crossing the road at Eglinton Avenue and Sinnott Road near Birchmount Rd. on Jan. 23.

Her husband Paul Martella and the family’s lawyer held a news conference Wednesday to announce the lawsuit.

Martella says the lawsuit is about safety, not money.

“I don’t want anybody else to go through what I’ve gone through. It’s been five and a half months of hell.”

“What we’re doing here is not for vindictiveness or revenge or monetary — it’s safety.”

Magdalene Angelidis faces charges of careless driving and failing to stop at a red light. She is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
