Girl, 4, unconscious after being pulled from Vaughan pool

A four-year-old girl was taken to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children in life-threatening condition after being pulled from a pool in Vaughan.

Police said the child wasn’t breathing and had no pulse when she was pulled from the pool at the Pavilion Fitness Club near Dufferin and Highway 407.

“The initial reports show that she was under the water for maybe a minute to two minutes,” York police Sgt. Clint Whitney said

She is now breathing on her own but is still in critical condition.

Whitney said they’re still trying to figure out what happened and need people who were at the fitness centre to contact them at (866) 876-5423 ext. 7441.

The girl was at the pool taking part in a kids club day camp.

“Many of the parents who found out about this attended the scene quickly and took their kids and got out,” Sgt. Whitney explained. “So there are a lot of folks who left already that we need to speak to.”

Police said someone spotted the girl underwater around 9:45 a.m.

A staff member immediately performed CPR until an ambulance arrived.

Pavilion manager Jennifer Bitton said five supervisors were on hand at the time, and it’s not clear how she went under undetected.

“Our kids are always safe, we do have adequate supervision at all times,” Bitton said.
