A new poll suggests the Senate expense scandal is taking a toll on Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his Conservative Party.
In a poll conducted by Ekos Research and iPolitics.ca, Harper’s approval rating is at an all-time low of 24 per cent.
The poll also reveals that 40 per cent of respondents believe Sen. Mike Duffy’s version of events over Harper’s. While 18 per cent believe the prime minister, 37 per cent of those polled don’t believe either of them.
Also, if it turns out that Harper lied or misled Parliament or the public about his role in the scandal, more than two-thirds of respondents think he should resign immediately.
As for an election, if the vote was to be held today, the poll predicts the Liberals would be in the lead with 37 per cent support, leaving the Tories in a virtual tie with the NDP for second place at 25 per cent and 26 per cent, respectively.
The poll was conducted Oct. 26-29.
