SIU investigating fatal Mississauga crash

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is probing a fatal Mississauga crash.

The victim, believed to be a man in his early 20s, was involved in a single-vehicle collision at Dundas and Hurontario streets around 7 a.m. on Saturday.

He was the only person in the car.

The intersection was closed for several hours and reopened around 2:45 p.m.

Ontario Provincial Police are also investigating. OPP say they were conducting a RIDE spot check on the ramp from the QEW westbound lanes to Hurontario when a driver failed to stop around 6:20 a.m.

Police gave chase but called off the pursuit due to public safety concerns. The driver was later involved in a collision on Hurontario. He was taken to hospital and pronounced dead.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency which investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
