Memorial set for last of victims of mass stabbing in Calgary

A service will be held Wednesday for the last of the five victims of last week’s mass murder in Calgary.
Lawrence Hong, who was 27, was to have graduated this year from the University of Calgary with a degree in urban studies.
Friends have described him as friendly and funny and a regular volunteer with the city’s folk music festival.
Hong, Zackariah Rathwell, Jordan Segura, Kaiti Perras and Josh Hunter were stabbed to death on April 15 at a party celebrating the end of university classes.
Three funerals were held Monday for Segura, Perras and Hunter while Rathwell’s funeral was held Tuesday.
Another party-goer, 22-year-old Matthew de Grood, is charged with five counts of first-degree murder.
De Grood, the son of a senior Calgary police officer, appeared in court Tuesday and was ordered to undergo a 30-day assessment to determine whether he is mentally fit to stand trial.
He will continue to be held at the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Centre, where he’s been since his arrest.
