5 must-see gems in West Queen West

Vogue has named West Queen West the world’s second coolest neighbourhood. Breakfast Television writer Romas Zabas is an expert on all things West Queen West, having explored the neighbourhood for years. Here are his top five picks:

Graffiti Alley: Officially Perry lane
Just walk south on the west side of Queen on Bathurst and turn right at the first opening. This is where you’ll find dozens of artists who have made their mark. Almost every wall or fence has been spray-painted with colours and shapes that will have you stopping and gazing, wondering how many people can have so much talent. And, the great thing about it, it’s free.

Nadege Patisserie
A dazzling display of desserts to choose from that you can enjoy with an espresso or cafe au lait. And you can sit outside on the patio across from Trinity-Bellwoods Park and watch people strolling and cycling by.

Stephen Bulger Gallery
One of the mainstays of Queen West, that’s been around for two decades. The photography gallery represents dozens of Canadian and international artists. The current show features the work of street photographer Vivien Maier.

The Rhino Restaurant + Bar
If you like your beer this is a can’t miss stop for a pint. There are a couple dozen drafts on tap to quench the thirst of any beer lover, whether it be a wheat beer, something fruity or a hoppy I.P.A. And a large patio makes it a fun night out.

Shopgirls Gallery Boutique
Of course all along Queen West you’ll find enough fashions that will satisfy anyone’s taste and one stop should be at Shopgirls Gallery Boutique. The clothing here is all from Canadian designers. There’s also plenty of cool accessories and jewelry.
