The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. (OLG) has launched an online gambling site, touting it as an “important milestone in the modernization of gaming in Ontario.”
PlayOLG.ca went live on Thursday, allowing eligible Ontario residents access to casino-style games like slots, blackjack, single-player poker and roulette. Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max tickets are also for sale on the site.
The OLG plans to add peer-to-peer poker, bingo and sports wagering in the future.
VP of iGaming John Wisternoff said the site offers a “safe and regulated alternative to grey market websites.”
Ontarians spend as much as $500 million annually on unregulated gaming sites.
The OLG forecasts the province will make $375 million in profit in the website’s first five years.
British Columbia, Manitoba, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces already offer online gaming.
