The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) announced that it will be providing a summary of marks for students amid the ongoing province-wide strike action by elementary teachers.
It reverses an earlier decision to have placement letters for elementary students.
While students in grades 1 through 8 won’t get a formal report card, they will receive a “summary of grades” the week of July 13. The summary will include the students grade, attendance record and the grade placement for next fall.
However, there will be no teacher comments or learning skills sections.
The change of heart comes as the TDSB looked at different ways to ensure students get their grades.
Last week, the board said Toronto schools didn’t have the manpower to send out formal report cards because teachers refused to input grades electronically as part of their ongoing work-to-rule action, but the school looked at different options.
The board said it will be providing extra staff to help get the summaries out on time.
It’s just been over one month since teachers began job action.
