Interview: Mayor Tory reflects on his first full year in office

The Uber-taxi debate, the future of the Gardiner Expressway, and bringing civil discourse back to city hall are some of the issues Mayor John Tory faced this year.

680 NEWS reporter Momin Qureshi sat down in a one-on-one interview with Tory, taking a look back at his first full year in office.

Tory said he’s still learning, and the job of being mayor is complicated.

“Things take longer than I expected […] but I think we’ve made progress this year. We’ll just have to proceed next year knowing a little more than we knew this year to get more done,” Tory said.

But there have been some bumps along the way.

“The Gardiner was a bump, in the sense it was a very controversial issue but I sort of stuck to my own guns, which was not all about building expressways for the sake of building them, but rather, keeping traffic and keeping the economy moving,” the mayor said.

Tory said key issues for 2016 include new regulations for Uber and a new contract for the city’s inside and outside workers.

“A city that works, a city that cares and a city that moves are what the people want to see.”
