Man, 54, killed in double shooting in Regent Park

Police have identified the 54-year-old man who was shot and killed during a double shooting in Regent Park early Saturday morning.

Police were called to an area near Gerrard and River streets just before 1:30 a.m. and discovered two men in medical distress

One man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Everone Paul Mitchell of Toronto.

A second victim, a 57-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect fled on foot eastbound on Gerrard but have not provided any descriptions.

Detective Jeff Tavares says they don’t believe this was not a random act.

“From what we are able to gather so far, the offender is walking towards the group with some sort of purpose,” said Tavares. “That would make me believe it wasn’t a random act.”

Police say the deceased did not live in the complex but was visiting at the time of the shooting and was not known to police.

Investigators believe there may have been a number of witnesses in the area at the time of the incident as the area is known to be frequented by area residents and visitors.
