Mayor Tory to undergo surgery on Achilles tendon

By News staff

Mayor John Tory will be taking a break from city hall to have surgery on his Achilles tendon.

The mayor’s office said Tuesday the surgery will take place Wednesday at Humber River Hospital.

“The mayor thanks the many Toronto residents who have reached out to wish him well ahead of the surgery,” the statement reads.

During Tory’s recovery, deputy mayor Denzil Minnan-Wong will serve as acting mayor.

The mayor’s office said Tory injured his Achilles tendon three times over the last few years. The latest injury was in October of last year.

“This surgery will ensure that his leg is back to normal,” spokesperson Lawvin Hadisi said in a email.

The recovery is expected to take a couple of weeks.

Although the mayor will not be attending any public events for 10-14 days, he will take place in meetings as required as of Thursday or Friday.
