Durham police are on the hunt for several suspects after a shootout in the parking lot of an Ajax bar.

Emergency crews were called to the scene on Bayly Street West near Westney Road around 11:40 p.m. Thursday.

In a release, police said a group of males and females came out of the Rum Diaries Restaurant and Lounge and congregated in the parking lot.

Multiple shots were fired during an ensuing shootout, and several vehicles fled the area.

Police said 11 shell casings were found in the parking lot of Rum Diaries.

Two bullets hit Gator Custom Auto on Bayley Street West. One bullet grazed the passenger side of an SUV in the auto shop’s parking lot, went straight through the side-view mirror, striking one of the bay doors of the garage.  Another bullet went right through the glass of the other bay door, police said.

No injuries were reported.

Police spotted one of the suspect vehicles as it travelled south on Brock Road to Highway 401. Officers followed it to Finch and Driftwood avenues where a brief pursuit commenced.

The vehicle crashed at Driftwood and Futura Drive, and three male suspects fled on foot.

Police were unable to catch them.

Police have not released suspect descriptions or any details on just how many people were involved in the original shooting.
