Man charged in deadly Eglinton Avenue West stabbing: police

Toronto police have charged a man in connection to an alleged stabbing that left a person dead early Sunday morning.
Police said they were called to an apartment in the Eglinton Avenue West and Dufferin Street area at around 6 a.m.
When officers arrived they found a man suffering from stab wounds. He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Birchfield Matthews, 43, of Toronto, died of his injuries in hospital on Sunday police said.
An autopsy has been ordered by the investigators.
A man was arrested at the scene. Police identified the man as Kenroy Samuel, 29, of Toronto. He has been charged with second-degree murder, police said.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the police directly or leave a tip with Crime Stoppers anonymously.
This is Toronto’s 14th homicide of 2020.
