Ontario reports 2,199 new cases of COVID-19, 30 new deaths

Ontario reported 2,199 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, a decrease from the 2,584 recorded on Saturday.

Thirty new deaths were also reported, bringing the total number of lives lost to the virus to 8,485 people.

The government said 633 new cases were recorded in Toronto, 547 in Peel Region, 172 in York Region, 143 in Durham and 129 in Hamilton.

Around 33,142 tests were completed, with a per cent positivity of 6.8 per cent, the government added.

The province also hit a new vaccine milestone, with over seven million jabs delivered so far.

“As of 8:00 p.m. yesterday, 7,064,815 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered,” Health Minister Christine Elliott said in a tweet.

The province’s total number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 509,316. The total number of recoveries is 474,175.
