Moderna to send 7M vaccine doses to Canada this month, first batch from U.S.

Canada’s procurement minister announced Wednesday that the country is set to receive seven million doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine through June.
It’s the first time the United States is sending doses of Moderna’s vaccine.

“Moderna will deliver seven million doses in June with shipments commencing next week,” Anand announced Wednesday.
“These deliveries will include, for the first time, doses from Moderna’s U.S. supply chain.”
The deliveries should mean Moderna delivers 11.2 million doses in the second quarter, in the range of the 10.3 to 12.3 million doses it had previously promised between April and June only shipping less than one-third of those to date.
The company has, however, not provided a specific delivery schedule yet for when the doses will arrive.
This also comes after Moderna established it would send two million vaccine doses to Canada by June 14.
That shipment was split up into 500,000 doses that were slated to arrive this week and another 1.5-million doses next week.
In mid-May, it was confirmed that Canada is expecting nine million doses of Pfizer’s vaccine in July.
Canada is anticipating another shipment of 12 million Pfizer doses in June.
Shipments will range from 2 to 2.5 million doses of Pfizer per week starting from the beginning of June to the end of July.
Anand says the federal government has so far delivered 31-million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the provinces and territories.
She says 70 per cent of eligible Canadians have had at least one dose.
“Millions of more doses arriving prior to the end of June and into the summer months, [and] based on confirmed deliveries alone, Canada is set to receive at least 55-million doses by the end of July,” Anand added.
“To be clear, that is the minimum number of doses were anticipate to receive within that timeframe.”
The federal government has also announced that starting early next month, Canadians returning from abroad will not need to quarantine for 14 days if they have received their two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
