Ontario is reporting an increase in daily COVID-19 cases on Monday with 422 new infections confirmed provincewide.

Three people in the 80-plus age group have died as a result of the virus.

There are currently 133 patients in ICU and 84 are on a ventilator. Of the 137 patients in the hospital (not located in the ICU), 90 of them are unvaccinated while 36 are fully vaccinated.

Monday’s tally has led to an uptick in the seven-day rolling average, which is now at 362 (2.48 cases per 100,000). There are 61 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Toronto, 47 in Peel Region, 41 in York Region, 17 in Halton Region and six in Durham.

Of the new cases today, 261 involved people who are unvaccinated, 13 are in individuals with one dose of a vaccine, 161 involve those who are fully immunized, and 23 are in people with unknown vaccination status.

Ontario’s effective reproduction number R(t)  – which corresponds to the average number of additional infections caused by one infection – is at 0.91 as of Monday. An R(t) of greater than 1 indicates exponential growth.

Ontario recorded 340 daily cases on Sunday with two deaths as well as 356 new cases on Saturday.

Just over 88 per cent of people aged 12 and up are vaccinated with one dose while 84 per cent of Ontario residents are fully vaccinated.

The province also confirmed 74 new COVID-19 cases in schools on Monday, 68 involving students. There have been 973 school-related COVID-19 cases reported in the last two weeks. There are currently three school closures in the province.
