Son, 25, charged after allegedly stabbing, choking mother in Pickering

Durham Regional Police have arrested and charged a 25-year-old man in the alleged stabbing and assault of his mother at a residence in Pickering.

Officers were called to the home near Valley Ridge Crescent and Thicket Crescent around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday for what investigators called a serious stabbing.

A middle-aged woman was located with life-threatening injuries and rushed to a trauma centre in Toronto. One man was taken into custody at the scene.

The 25-year-old, confirmed by police to be the woman’s son, was not identified. He’s facing several charges, including assault by choking, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

He was held for a bail hearing.

Const. George Tudos said was no one else in the home at the time of the incident.

“We’re still trying to determine what led to the stabbing,” Tudos said. “If anyone had seen or heard anything around 8:20 [Wednesday] morning, they’re urged to contact investigators.”
