Canada Post is issuing a fundraising stamp in support of humanitarian assistance for Ukraine — a first for the postal agency.

In a release, Canada Post says the stamp is an effort to provide customers and collectors “with a way to support the people of Ukraine and the escalating humanitarian crisis.”

The stamps will be available in booklets of 10 and $1 from each one sold will go to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation. Ten cents from every first-day cover — a special collectible envelope — will also go to the charity.

“It’s with deep concern and compassion that Canadians have watched the devastating events unfolding in Ukraine, which have displaced millions of families,” said Doug Ettinger, President and CEO of Canada Post. “With this special stamp, Canadians can stand with Ukraine and support the important efforts of the Canada-Ukraine Foundation and their Humanitarian Appeal.”

The stamp was originally issued in 2011 and bears a bright yellow sunflower against a blue sky, a nod to the Ukrainian flag. The sunflower is Ukraine’s national flower and are also seen on the country’s national headdress called the vinok.

The special semi-postal stamp is available for pre-order on the Canada Post website starting Thursday and will be available in post officers staring July 7.
