Driver charged after operating ATV with infant strapped to chest

The driver of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) is facing charges after operating the vehicle with an infant child strapped to their chest in Port Colborne, Ont.
Niagara police say they responded to a traffic complaint around 2:40 p.m. on Thursday after someone reported seeing an ATV driver with a young child strapped to their chest in the area of King Street and Main Street West.
Officers located the ATV and conducted a traffic stop. It was discovered that a 7-month-old child was strapped to the driver in a baby chest carrier while wearing a bicycle helmet.
The driver was arrested and is facing five charges including dangerous operation of a conveyance, driving while under suspension, driving an off road vehicle with no insurance, failure to surrender evidence of insurance, and driving a motor vehicle with no number plate.
The driver’s name is not being released to protect the identity of the young child. They were released from police custody and are due in court in Welland, Ont. on Sep. 22.
