Heat warning issued for Toronto, GTA as humidity makes it feel like high 30s

Residents of Toronto and the GTA are being asked to prepare for a heat event this weekend.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Toronto, Halton, Peel along with the Windsor-area as maximum temperatures are expected to reach the low 30s on both Saturday and Sunday with humidex values making it feel closer to the mid- to high 30s.

“Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category,” says the national weather service.

“The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.”

The heat event is expected to subside by Sunday night as a cold front passes through the region.
