Man, 19, arrested in connection to May 2020 slaying of rapper ‘Houdini’

A Brampton man connected to the May 2020 shooting of a well-known Toronto rapper is now in custody.
Peel police say the 19-year-old was in a vehicle in the area of Eglinton Avenue East and Dixie Road in Mississauga that was being investigated by tactical officers when two firearms were recovered. It was later determined that the teen was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for a firearm related offence in the death of Dimarjio Jenkins, who went by the rap name Houdini.
Jenkins was killed in a brazen daytime shooting outside a hotel in Toronto’s Entertainment District back on May 26, 2020 which also left a 15-year-old boy and a 27-year-old woman seriously wounded. At the time Jenkins, who grew up in Brampton, was said to have been one of the most-streamed independent Canadian rappers.
Two weeks later, at a vigil for Jenkins, another shootout erupted injuring two others. Three men were arrested in connection with that incident.
Peel police say the suspect’s name cannot be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act because he was considered a youth at the time of the fatal shooting.
The Brampton teen is one of only two people to be arrested in connection to Jenkins’ death to date.
In November 2020, Toronto police arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with three separate homicides, including Jenkins. CJay Hobbs is alleged to have been the getaway driver in that murder.
