‘Reserved for Adam’: Attempt to reserve Bike Share Toronto bicycle for commute sparks anger

On the eve of his morning commute to work, Adam tried to reserve one of Toronto’s Bike Share bicycles.

It didn’t go over too well.

The Bike Share Toronto website says there are currently 7,185 bikes at 630 stations across 200 kilometres of the city. But this Adam character apparently knew exactly which bike he wanted and tried to make it clear he had dibs.

A photo of the note he pasted onto his preferred ride at the docking station north of Bloor Street inevitably found its way onto Reddit.

The note reads: “Reserved for Adam. please don’t use this bike. I need it to go to work in the morning.”

Adam was quickly accused of not understanding the “Share” part of the Bike Share system.

“Adam only shares with himself,” one Redditor quipped.

“He thinks it’s the ‘Bikes are all mine’ program,” another added.

While most acted like Adam had committed the original sin, some were a bit more forgiving.

“Why all this hate for Adam?” a rare online empath questioned. “I actually find it kinda funny how it says ‘Reserved’ without being able to reserve it. (It) also says ‘please’. He is asking for consideration in a funny way.”

“He wrote please on the note,” another commenter pointed out. “He didn’t put caution tape around the thing. People are overreacting to a stranger’s plea for help.”
