New Highway 401 express lanes open in Mississauga

By Jordan Kerr

Another new stretch of express lanes have opened on Highway 401 in Mississauga.

On the westbound 401, express lanes have been extended from west of Mavis Road to Winston Churchill Boulevard.

With this extension, the WB 401 now features a full express and collector system through Mississauga, except for a small stretch between Winston Churchill and HWY 407.

The new express lanes made an immediate positive impact, with traffic being significantly better than usual on the westbound 401 through Mississauga Road on Monday.

Back in August, express lanes opened on the WB 401 between the 407 and James Snow Parkway.

Construction is still underway on the Eastbound 401 in this area, with express lanes close to being ready between James Snow Parkway and the Credit River.

This is all part of $640 million project to widen the 401 between the Credit River and Highway 25. Work has been going on since 2019 and according to the MTO, is still on track to be complete by the end of this year.
