A 17-year-old is facing an attempted murder charge after another teen suffered life-threatening injuries in a shooting at a parking lot of a high school in Brampton.

Peel Regional Police were called to one of the parking lots at Castlebrooke Secondary School, located near Gore Road and Gardenbrooke Trail, just after noon on Friday.

Officers say the 18-year-old male teen walked himself to a local hospital with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a trauma centre with critical injuries but was listed in stable condition.

Police say this was a targeted shooting and identified a 17-year-old suspect from Brampton, who was taken into custody on Saturday morning and charged with attempted murder and failing to comply with a release order.

The name of the suspect cannot be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

A spokesperson with the Peel District School Board said the school was placed in a hold and secure at 12:25 p.m. due to a “nearby incident.”

According to reports from the scene, police had taped off the parking lot that is further away from the school.
